CIFF Shanghai plans to focus on design, digital technology and sustainability for 2026 event
CIFF Shanghai has announced a new strategic direction for its 2026 exhibition, centred on design, digital intelligence and sustainability as the furniture industry responds to changing market demands and technological developments. The 58th edition of the trade fair will take place in September at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai Hongqiao. Organisers say the event is intended to function not only as a marketplace but also as a platform for innovation, industry collaboration and international exchange.
Design will be a major focus of the exhibition. A key element is Design Eden, a 50,000 square metre area dedicated to contemporary design brands, creative studios and independent designers. The space will host exhibitions, product launches, forums and industry awards. The programme will also include the CIFF Shanghai Design Conference and the launch of the Golden Creation Award, which aims to recognise innovation in furniture and product design.
Digital technology and retail transformation form the second pillar of the event. A redesigned New Retail Hall will showcase integrated retail environments from 15 brands, demonstrating how physical and digital channels can be combined through data-driven management systems. Organisers say visitors will be able to experience products and spaces through virtual and augmented reality technologies. The exhibition’s digital platform is also being expanded through a multilingual website and integrated social media channels intended to support exhibitors and international buyers.
CIFF Shanghai is also working with retail group Red Star Macalline on a nationwide matchmaking programme designed to strengthen links between manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
Sustainability is the third strategic priority. Alongside the main exhibition, the CIFF Shanghai WMF International Woodworking Machinery Fair will present technologies intended to improve resource efficiency and support more sustainable manufacturing processes. The Golden Creation Award will include a Green Sustainability Award category recognising products and systems that incorporate recyclable materials, low-emission construction methods and environmentally focused design approaches.
A new International Materials Selection Center will showcase emerging sustainable materials aimed at supporting the transition to greener manufacturing supply chains.
The exhibition programme will be organised around three principal themes: Design Eden, focused on original design and product launches; New Retail, exploring retail innovation and data-led business models; and Integrated Home Building, developed in partnership with the China International Building & Decoration Fair 2026 (Shanghai) to address growing demand for integrated interior solutions.
Organisers also plan to expand the event’s international reach through activity focused on woodworking machinery, upholstered furniture, outdoor living, office environments and living and dining spaces. International roadshows, media partnerships and buyer engagement programmes are expected to continue. According to the organisers, these initiatives generated more than 470 business meetings and onsite orders worth over US$8 million during 2025.
The cultural programme will include five curated exhibitions exploring the relationship between design, lifestyle, sustainability and commercial change. These include The Hidden Realm Thematic Exhibition, HOTLINE – Joint Exhibition of Design Creators, Grand Tea Gala, The Design & Imagination Contemporary Design Exhibition and Design Gravity.
Organisers say the event’s long-term ambition is to develop beyond a conventional trade fair into a year-round platform that combines content creation, industry networking and business services for the global furniture sector.
