The adoption of GenAI has major benefits for project management, report claims
A new report [registration] published by the Project Management Institute claims “those who adeptly transform the perceived threat of GenAI into an opportunity for their project teams and organisations will undoubtedly be in demand for their innovative leadership.” According to the report, 91 percent of project managers who use AI in more than 51 percent of their recent projects (Trailblazers) experienced a significant impact on project quality management. Compared to just 40 percent for project managers who use AI in 15 percent or less of their recent projects (Explorers).
Significant benefits were unlocked in other areas too, the report claims. 93 percent of Trailblazers saw a positive impact on productivity, 89 percent believe that problem-solving was positively impacted by AI, 88 percent said that effectiveness was increased, 84 percent said that creativity was positively impacted and 83 percent experience an increase in collaboration.
By contrast just 58 percent of Explorers saw a positive impact on productivity, 46 percent experienced a positive impact on problem-solving, 50 percent said effectiveness was improved, 44 percent saw an increase in creativity and just 32 percent said that collaboration was positively impacted.
“Talking about GenAI usage is the key. Project professionals need to create a constant feedback loop with their peers, such that they have the space to share experiences and knowledge in real time, as well as be able to ask for support,” points out Aneliya Chervenova, senior product manager, medical CRM, GSK, Bulgaria.
Some of the key takeaways from the report:
- Project professionals should not only experiment with GenAI in different projects and business contexts, but also in various activities and tasks of the project life cycle.
- Those project professionals leading GenAI adoption are already building critical advantages over those still in the initial stages. There is no single pattern of adoption or a “recipe” that can be copied. You and your organization need to define your own adoption strategy.
- It is critical to define the expected benefits and outcomes from adopting GenAI in project work.
