The only way is ethics … the Workplace Cocktail Hour with David Sharp
David Sharp joins Mark Eltringham on the Workplace Cocktail Hour to share a bourbon, discuss a wide range of issues – and avoid one that won’t help either of them. They discuss the ethics of artificial intelligence, why we need more friction in our lives (and less seamlessness), the philosophy of work, how to deal with social media, the importance of making your own life more difficult on purpose, and the pleasures of finding out you are wrong about something.
David is the Founder and CEO of International Workplace, a specialist learning and development provider that delivers globally accredited training and consulting programs for some of the world’s leading organisations. The firm grew from Workplace Law Group, the company he founded in 1995. He has recently completed a Masters degree in AI and Ethics at Cambridge.
He has strong and longstanding links with many people and organisations in the facilities, property, HR, Occupational Health, legal and other related sectors. He writes and speak regularly on issues in workplace management, having presented and facilitated sessions at events including ThinkFM, the European FM Summit in Prague, the 33rd FM Forum, Workplace Futures, and the RICS Strategic FM Conference in 2020.
He enjoys running, swimming and cycling. In 2012 he took part in the Cape Argus (world’s largest competitive bike race), and cycled unsupported from Land’s End to John O’ Groats.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers, and a Freeman of the City of London.
About the Workplace Cocktail Hour
The Workplace Cocktail Hour is brought to you in partnership with The Workplace Event. Each episode looks at the major workplace related news stories from the last week or so. There’ll be no editing, the episode is recorded in real time at the end of the day, so we’ll be talking straight and reacting to current news and events. Each week’s guest is invited to nominate a topic for discussion and a drink for us to share. Doesn’t have to be alcoholic but the intention is to talk like normal, informed humans over a shared drink. At some point, we’ll be doing it in person.
If you’d like to take part in what we hope is an informed, intelligent and maybe challenging series, we’d love to hear from you.
All of the podcasts are available on Soundcloud, Amazon, Apple, Spotify and iTunes.Â
