Announcing a new publication: Sustainability Works
We are launching a new publication, Sustainability Works. With the first issue scheduled for August 2026, the new title will incorporate thought provoking articles, features and news stories embracing a truly sustainable approach to people and planet. Edited by Joanna Knight, Sustainability Works will be published in partnership with the Sustainable Design Collective. As co-founder of SDC and a Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals, Joanna has many years’ experience in the workplace interiors and furniture sectors. In 2001, she was a founder director of a company which led the field in environmental responsibility and lifecycle management of Furniture, Fittings and Equipment and since that time has championed the importance of greater sustainability. CIFF Shanghai plans to focus on design, digital technology and sustainability for 2026 event
CIFF Shanghai has announced a new strategic direction for its 2026 exhibition, centred on design, digital intelligence and sustainability as the furniture industry responds to changing market demands and technological developments. The 58th edition of the trade fair will take place in September at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai Hongqiao. Organisers say the event is intended to function not only as a marketplace but also as a platform for innovation, industry collaboration and international exchange. (more…)

Furniture industry invited to explore how sustainability can drive commercial success
The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, is inviting furniture and furnishings professionals to attend ‘Making Commercial Sense of Sustainability’, a one-day industry event focused on turning environmental responsibility into commercial opportunity. Taking place on Thursday 19 March (11:00am – 4:00pm) at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London, the event will bring together business leaders, sustainability experts, manufacturers, designers and specifiers to examine how sustainability can be embedded into business strategy in a way that supports growth, resilience and long-term profitability. Sustainability and wellbeing yet again key themes of South West BCO Awards
Seven office developments across the South of England and South Wales have been recognised as the region’s most outstanding workplaces at the annual British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards. Among the winners were three Bristol-based projects, highlighting the city’s growing reputation for innovative, inclusive and sustainable office design. The awards ceremony, held at We The Curious in Bristol, celebrated excellence in office design, fit-out, and environmental performance. With a strong emphasis this year on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), wellbeing, and inclusivity, the judges praised the winning projects for their forward-thinking, occupier-focused approaches. Furniture Makers to hold next sustainability event focussed on material choices
The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, is hosting its next sustainability event focussed on examining some of the established and widely used materials in the furniture and furnishings sector. The seminar, which is sponsored by the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP), Ocee & Four Design, Panaz and Satra Technology, will be held on Tuesday 4 March at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London. Organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company’s Climate Change and Sustainability Committee, the event will include presentations on foam, fabrics, textiles, leather and wood. In addition, new materials will be discussed and the necessary investigations in relation to recycled content, future recyclability and other implications. (more…)

Inclusivity, sustainability and user-centric design dominate BCO South West Regional Awards
What are claimed to be the South West of England’s and South Wales’s most outstanding workplaces have been announced, with British Council for Offices Awards going to six office buildings across the region. Held at The Coal Exchange Hotel, the BCO’s annual South of England and South Wales Awards Dinner celebrated the high-calibre of the region’s offices in terms of design, fit-out operation and sustainability. BCO London Awards winners focus on sustainability, wellbeing and user-friendliness

A lot of young people don’t think their employers give a fig about sustainability
Ahead of World Earth Day, a new poll from Zest, claims that workers across the UK are increasingly focused on sustainability and expect their employers to do more – particularly younger generations. Half (51 percent) of employees are keen to see their company invest more in sustainability, rising to 61 percent of younger workers aged 18-34. The survey from Zest also reveals that over half (53 percent) would like to see their company investing in more sustainable benefits such as electric vehicles, similarly rising to two-thirds (66 percent) of 18–34 year olds – and these demands are not going unnoticed. Cities worldwide are grappling with the delicate balance between nighttime charm and sustainability
As well as the delights of daytime, cities around the world have long been defined by how their iconic landmarks come to life at night. Think of London’s illuminated riverside or Amsterdam’s canals lit up after dark. These vistas almost come to be synonymous with these places’ very identities. Aston Woodward, co-founder of asset management firm Oxygen also brings one of Australia’s best-known destinations into the mix. “Well-lit buildings at night in any city are attractive. Sydney is a good example and at night is dramatic. Many tourists as well as residents sit and admire a variety of size and colour and interactions generated from the buildings’ lighting.” (more…)
